In the News PRESS RELEASES Kids’ Korner announces new director for Child Care and Development Center Contact Person: Kathy Callies – 772-5153 calliesk@alliancecom.net The Kids’ Korner would like to announce the hiring of Sandi Schmit as the new director for the new facility to be open this fall. Schmit has operated a daycare in her home in the rural Canova area for over 11 years and will be completing her Child Development Associate (CDA) certification this fall. “I consider it a joy and privilege to provide loving care, teaching and guidance to children through their early years,” Schmit said. “I am really looking forward to this opportunity to serve all children of Miner County.” Once Kids’ Korner is completed the childcare and development center will feature childcare for children ages 4 weeks to pre-kindergarten. The 4-week to 3-year-old age group will begin operation when the facility construction is completed by mid-November. The Kids’ Korner board of directors has made arrangements to lease the former FSA building for the three to pre-kindergarten (preschool) operation to begin in mid-September. The hours at this temporary location will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but parents with work schedule conflicts with this time frame should contact the MCCR office at 772-5153. Expanded hours for this age group will be available when construction is complete. For parents of Kindergarten children with Wednesday childcare needs are also encouraged to call the MCCR office. Children of all income levels aged 3 through pre-school can be enrolled on a part-time or full-time basis which will also include children enrolled in the I-CAP Headstart program. “The underlying principle of Kids’ Korner remains services to all children regardless of income levels in the county,” Kathy Callies, Kids’ Korner Treasurer said. “Our motto is quality - each child, each family, each and every time.” Kids’ Korner has formed its own non-profit organization that will develop the center and hire staff for a projected opening date of mid-November. To register your child for either the preschool or child care please also contact the MCCR office. Miner County Construction, Inc. (MCC) owned by Colin Wunder is the general contractor for the construction of the building that has just recently begun on the lot located at 206 N Main Street in Howard, SD. Many local subcontractors will be involved in the construction as well. |
