Miner County Amateur Photo Contest Winners Announced Contact Person: Mike Knutson Howard, SD - February 10, 2004 - Miner County Community Revitalization announced the winners of the Miner County Amateur Photo Contest this past week. By the deadline of mid-November 177 entries had been received, representing a wide variety of subject matter ranging from people, animals, places and events throughout Miner County. To be eligible entries were required to have been taken in Miner County. In addition to many local residents, entries were received from former residents of Miner County and included photos of scenes from the past. “We really appreciated the opportunity to see these pictures of Miner County and to hear some of the stories related to them. It reminds us of the tremendous history we hold here in Miner County and just how unique this place has been and still is to those of us who call Miner County “home”. We hope to make the contest an annual event and urge people to continue to locate and take those photos,” said Kathy Callies, MCCR Development Director. Winners were selected in two categories – Judged and People’s Choice. SDSU photography students provided judging with regard to technique, composition, interest and story-telling ability. People’s Choice winners were determined by the people of Miner County through ballots taken from exhibit sites in Howard, Carthage and Canova. Overall winner in the SDSU Judging round was Martin Esser. Runners-up in this category included Delores Walter and Leta Trusty. Overall winner in the People’s Choice round was Andy Stangohr. Runners-up in this category included Delores Walter and Carol Feldhaus. Cash awards for all six winners were sponsored by Alliance Communications. MCCR would also like to thank Jeannette Kommes of Jeannette’s Graphics for technical assistance in scanning and storing the entries, the Miner County Pioneer in supporting announcements related to the contest, to David Callies for being our courier to SDSU, to the SDSU photography students for judging the entries and to Alliance Communications for their financial support of the photo contest. |
