Contact Person: Kathy Callies – 772-5153; calliesk@alliancecom.net

The MCCR Child Care Advisory Group for The Kids’ Korner has been meeting to put together tentative planning information for the Korner.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Korner is encouraged to call the MCCR Office at 772-5153. It is the input from the public and needs of families that will determine the availability of slots, staffing needs and policies for the Korner.

In the effort to outline the features of the Korner, the following information is being presented.

In one wing of the Korner, children ages 4 weeks to three years will experience a staff to child ratio of 1 to 5. The other wing dedicated to children ages 3 through pre-kindergarten will experience a staff to child ratio of 1 to 10. The age-appropriate activities and equipment available for this age group depend on the abilities of each individual child. The Korner features over 6,000 square feet of fenced outdoor play area.

Schedule times are flexible and due to a child’s interest, staff may spend more or less time on certain activities. Nap and rest times for children are observed. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are all served family style among staff and children. The following are activities that a child might experience while at the Korner:

Infants

  • Self-directed play in planned learning areas indoors and out, as weather permits.
  • The young infant’s day is individualized as infants have their own schedule for eating, and napping.

Mobile Infants

  • Music, stories, and interactive games as desired. Large motor activities are developed through outside and inside play.
  • Activity time: including blocks, books, push/pull toys.
  • Naptime as needed for individual schedules.
  • Mobile Infant’s schedule is an outline curriculum; their day will contain many opportunities for individualization and one on one time.

Toddlers

  • Tabletop activities featuring music and movement.
  • Outside play as weather permits.
  • Activity time throughout the day to include: art, dramatic play, blocks, stories and music.
  • Naptime
