In order for people to learn more about the wind turbines, Energy Maintenance Service (EMS) displayed the nacelle of a pre-retrofitted turbine at the 2002 Howard Farm and Home Show. The nacelle weights 9,500 lbs and provides the outer casing for the turbine's generator. |

Kramer Construction, a local construction company, poured the base for the Canova turbine (above), as well as the other turbines in Miner County. |

The first step in constructing a turbine involves the construction of a concrete base with reinforced rebar. In the picture to the right, one can see the large bolts that are used to bolt the turbine to the base. |

The tower consists of three tubular sections of steel that are lifted into position by a crane and bolted together. Once together the tower stands 80 feet tall and is ready for the nacelle to be lifted into place. |

The turbine blades are the last pieces to be attached and are transported on a semi-flat bed trailer. Each blade is made of fiberglass and is 29 feet long. |

| Energy Maintenance Service (EMS) installed all four turbines currently located in Miner County. EMS founder and president, Joe Kolbach is a Howard, SD native. | |
