On
Thursday, October 31, 2002, the Environmental Law and Policy Center (ELPC)
held a press conference in Howard, SD. The purpose was to announce
the results of a study they commissioned showing the economic impact
renewable energy could have on South Dakota. In all, the study suggests
that 3,800 jobs and $275 million in economic growth could be created in
South Dakota by 2020 if some federal and state policy changes occur.
The report sited Energy Maintenance Service (EMS) of Gary and Howard, SD
as an example of what could happen in South Dakota. Several
regional paper reporters and government officials attended the conference.
